Proposal: Reinterpreted French Classicism in Retiro , Buenos Aires

This interior design proposal for the Retiro apartment pays homage to the stately, French-inspired elegance that defines this historic Buenos Aires neighborhood, seamlessly blending it with a contemporary, organic, and avant-garde interior language. The original architecture is preserved as a patrimonial treasure: soaring ceilings adorned with imposing decorative moldings, majestic central rosettes, and walls lined with refined classical plaster boiseries. This aristocratic envelope is transformed through the introduction of clean-lined, sinuous furniture that breaks the rigidity of the historical setting without losing an ounce of its natural sophistication.

The color palette is grounded in a noble and timeless backdrop. The walls and ceilings are finished in subtle shades of ivory, bone, and pearl grey, allowing natural light to emphasize the reliefs and details of the moldings. The primary color accent is provided by a curved modular sofa upholstered in a sumptuous olive or dry pistachio green velvet, injecting urban freshness and a contemporary dynamism into the lounge area. To complement this scheme, accent chairs in textured grey tones, cylindrical coffee tables crafted from light stone or travertino, and large-format area rugs in off-white are incorporated to frame the resting zones over the original wooden floors.
